Mmm… Doughnut Face…

I’ve been on Good Day Oregon for just over four years now, and I can say that I have officially arrived. It’s not every day that you get immortalized in maple by two of the northwest’s most revered jelly-filled geniuses. Today I spent the morning at Voodoo Doughnuts, where owners Cat Daddy and Tres surprised me with my very own doughnut likeness (They also made me another doughnut that is less family friendly. I will not be showing it here). I spent almost four hours shooting the breeze with the guys and I was pleasantly surprised by how cool and down-to-earth they are. I realize this may seem silly to out-of-towners, but the two doughnut dudes are Portland celebrities. They have been on just about every national food show, from Anthony Bourdain to Man vs. Food. Their creations have also been on The Tonight Show, Good Morning America- Cat Daddy and Tres were even featured in a Simpsons special that aired on Fox (jealous). Let’s face it, at this point, they don’t really need “local” publicity, but they were very appreciative and accomodating hosts for yours truly. And even though they kind of embody the ironic and “weird” vibe of Portland, they aren’t too-cool-for-school hipsters. Basically, they’re just a couple of fun-loving dudes who love living in Portland. So, the next time you’re scarfing down one of their maple-and-bacon bars (my personal fave), you can know that you’re supporting a company that exemplifies what the Rose City is all about: good food, good people and good times.
